Materials:

Left to right, Star Pins made from Clear, Translucent, Canvas White, and Black PolyShrink.
Scroll down for instructions-

Each pin has 2 layers-
The top layer is 3 inches across with 1-1/4 inch star punched in the center.
The back layer is 3-3/4 inches in diameter.

If there will be a colored pencil background, it's often easiest to color first, then cut out and punch after. See below-

Star Pin on Translucent-

First sand the sheet, then color with pencils-

Cut out shapes and punch the star design-
Add metallic and/ or paint marker, shrink, then glue the layers together.

On Clear PolyShrink-

  • Sand both sides of the sheet
  • Color heavily with pencils on one side
  • Cut out shapes and punch the star design
  • Add metallic marker embellishment on the uncolored side
  • If desired, add pencil to the center of the back layer, to show through the punched out design
  • Bake
  • Before assembling, apply a gloss sealer. This will enhance the "see-through" effect by changing the matt, sanded surface back to the clear appearence it had prior to sanding

Click for tips on applying sealers, and for information on adhesives.

On Canvas White PolyShrink-

  • Sand one side of the sheet
  • For the larger backing layer, draw the circle shape on the unsanded side. Then color on the sanded side, leaving a round area in the center uncolored. Cut out the shape.
  • Cut out and punch the top layer, then color with pencils. Edge with metallic marker if desired
  • Bake, seal if desired, and assemble

On Black PolyShrink-

  • Sand one side of the sheet
  • Draw circle shapes with a regular graphite pencil, cut out and punch the star design
  • Decorate the top and bottom layers with metallic and paint markers
  • Color the center of the backing layer to show through the punched design in the top layer
  • Bake, seal if desired, and assemble

Note: The circle shape for the top layers were punched using a 3 inch diameter punch. (Very nice if you have one!) Otherwise, cutting out with scissors works very well.
