For the Top Layer: Cut to size and sand
a piece of Canvas White PolyShrink. Round the corners with
scissors or a corner punch. Rub small amounts of chalk pastels
into the surface. Try different colors on scraps of PolyShrink
and bake to see how they will look after shrinking.
Once
you have the overall background colors rubbed in, you can make
additional texture in the surface with coarse (around 150 grit)
sandpaper. Depending on the background color, the scratches may
be difficult to see, so don't overdo. Pick up a small amount
of a medium to dark shade of pastel on the tip of your finger
and gently rub across the grain of the sandpaper texture. Stamp
the central image in Colorbox Crafter's or Fabrico Ink.
For the Background Layer: The width
and height of the background layer should be at least 2 inches
larger than the top layer. Make a layout on paper with the stamp
you want to use. Check the proportions by placing the top layer
over your paper layout. You can place the PolyShrink over the
paper layout to help with registration. Rub in chalk pastels
and stamp your design. The background layer can also be stamped
randomly, or not stamped at all. Experiment with additional chalk
pastel rubbing, sandpaper texture, or stippling ink over pastels.
