I’m the mother of two small boys, and the lucky wife of a husband who supports my artistic habit. My two loves are collage on canvas and jewelry—I’m completely hooked on shrink plastic! I’ve been teaching mixed media art classes at our local stamp store, Endless Creations, for several years. Recently, I’ve been invited to teach the Layered Shrink Art Necklace at the Stampaway USA Convention in August, 2004.

Bottle Cap Pin: A round shrink art charm is domed. It’s then set into a bottle cap, and layered onto a glass base. Finally, it’s adorned with an old key for the ‘body’ and wire for the ‘arms’.

Layered Shrink Art Necklace: (this is the class I’ll be teaching at the Stampaway Convention in August). Canvas White PolyShrink is ‘aged’ by sanding and scratching the surface, and buffing with chalks. Smaller shrink plastic charms are layered onto a pre-shrunk base. The final piece is encased in resin and adorned with beads.

Leather Bracelet: Domed shrink art charms are glued onto a leather strip, and decorated with micro-beads. A bib overall buckle serves as a clasp! I got this idea from the book “The 30 Minute Rubberstamp Workshop” by Sandra McCall (the sample in her book uses the flat glass marbles...but of course, I had to find a way to incorporate my shrink plastic!).

Journal: Alcohol-based inks (Piñata Colors) are painted on pre-shrunk Canvas White PolyShrink, and then overstamped with Ranger Black Archival Ink. (you can also pre-stamp the un-shrunk plastic with Archival Ink and paint on the alcohol inks after shrinking). They are edged with a golf leafing pen and adhered to the journal.

Intaglio Bracelet: Small squares of shrink plastic are given dimension with the Intaglio technique, and highlighted with Lumiere paints. The charms are then set into a bracelet blank.
